“Life is about creating balance, not suppressing your good, and not suppressing your bad, for one cannot exist without the other, embrace them equally."
I like this quote because it simply breaks down the truth of duality. These images represent the innate striking contrast of the human condition, that I feel we humans all have. We are complex and filled with both good and bad. To me, finally accepting this, makes me feel more whole.
The weight of the world can be summed up and compressed into two of our vital organs, the mind and the heart. This is more profoundly acute for people like myself that are highly sensitive. I don’t think anyone is completely immune to feeling the weight or pressure life comes at us with. This series depicts the dual lives we live, that which is happening inside us and that which we portray for all to see. Each piece explores those moments of intense feelings of being in ones head, held hostage by these heavy thoughts, constantly looking inward while maintaining that external composure. The moments when time is suspended, and we unwillingly or subconsciously are rendered helpless to waves of indifference, emptiness and discontentedness. In the wake of when these moments pass, sometimes a newfound lightness and awareness arise. Those are the times when we shed a little of that weight.
